A four-year letterman football Eagles (1987-90)... Helped Southern to a 48-10 record and its third and fourth Division I-AA national championships... Was a finalist for the 1989 Walter Payton Award- symbolic of the nation's top player in Division 1-AA... A three-time All-America selection (1987, 1989 and 1990)... Named to the Associated Press, Kodak/ American Football Coaches Association and The Sports Network first teams as a junior... Is the school's all-time rushing leader with 3, 876. Yards, including a best-ever 1,354 during his junior season... Finished fourth nationally in statistical rankings with 135.40 yards per game... Set the school record with 212 rushing attempts in 1988... Also ranks in the tip five all-time for season yards per carry (second at 6.4 and third at 6.2) career attempts (second with 687), career touchdowns (fourth with 36 ) and career yards per carry (second at 5.6)... Rushed for 100 or more yards 21 times (18 regular season) during his career, including six straight games in 1989... Is the only player to cross the 1,000-yard mark twice... Held the school record for the longest run from scrimmage from 1987 (75 yards vs. Catawba) until it was broken in 1994... Equaled that mark against The Citadel in the 1988 playoffs... Has three of the top six single-game rushing performances including the school record, 280 vs. Marshall in 1989... Helped the Eagles to a No.1 statistical ranking in rushing offense as a junior... Named Most Valuable Player of the 1989 Bold City Classic, a 28-0 Eagle victory over Florida A&M... Rushed for 152 yards on a then-Paulson Stadium record 31 carries in the 1989 championship game win over Stephen F. Austin.
