Long known as "Mr. Golf" at Geogia Southern. A key leader in developing the "bog blue", the first fund-raising organization to support the Eagle Athletics. Was a significant factor in the outstanding success of the golf program during the 1970s. A co-founder of the ‘Chris Schenkel Intercollegiate Golf Tournament', hosted by Georgia Southern from 1971-89. This tournament not only provided from the proceeds a golf scholarship in Schenkel's name, but brought such great golfers as Andy Bean, Jerry Pate, Curtis Strange and many others to Statesboro. The Schenkel tournament was known as the college championship of the Eastern United States and brought the top college golfers to Statesboro annually. For his outstanding service to Georgia Southern golf, he and is great friend Gerry Achenbach have been honored by having he annual Georgia Southern Pro-Am named after them, the Achenbach-Robbins Pro-Am.
