One of the most versatile athletes in Georgia Southern history, was a four-year letterman in football, basketball and track from 1936 to 1940. Played fullback, safety, sideback, punter, kickoff and punt returner under legendary B.L. "Cook" Smith. Was a guard on basketball squad and participated in seven events on track squad. Finished college career undefeated in the 440 and 880 races. Also lettered in tennis. Born January 3, 1920 in Atlanta, GA. Graduated with degree in education in 1940. Had illustrious aviation career in which he amassed over 35,000 hours flying private, military, and commercial aircraft. Started airline career as a co-pilot and concluded last five years in charge of the Eastern Airlines' L1011 program. During his career with Eastern, was the first to fly in and out of Washington National; first in and out of Houston Intercontinental and the first to pilot a non-stop scheduled flight from Atlanta to Seattle. Named Georgia Southern Alumnus of the Year in 1969 and 1974, and Outstanding Lettermen's Association. Lettermen's President in 1969-70 and Alumni President in 1968-69 and again in 1980-82. Chairman of Airline Pilots Association 1959-61.
