A three sport athlete for Georgia Normal School (1926-28)... Enjoyed a stellar athletic career despite losing a hand in a hunting accident at age 16... Played quarterback and defensive halfback on the 1926 and 1927 football teams... Teams posted a 11-4-2 mark over the two seasons... Defense recorded nine shutouts Pitched for the baseball team in 1927... His strongest assets were his defensive skills... Was a member of the track team, running the 100-yard dash and on various relay teams.
