Baseball, 1986-89... Assistant Baseball Coach, 1994-99... Four-year letterman under legendary coach Jack Stallings... Three-time GSU ‘Scholar Athlete of the Year’ selection and a Rhodes Scholar Finalist - the first ever at Georgia Southern... Helped lead the Eagles to a NCAA Regional appearance in 1987... Played second base, third base, shortstop and outfield, turning in career batting average of .278 in 164 career games... Top season was a junior where he batted .303 in 55 contests... taught baseball abroad since 1989, visiting Estonia, Curacao, Aruba, Costa Rica, Israel, Nicaragua and Japan... Served as head coach of the Nicaraguan National Olympic Team in 1994 before coaching the squad in the 1996 Centennial Games in Atlanta - leading them to the Bronze Medal game against the United States... Works the World Children’s Baseball Fair in Miyazaki,Japan annually... As a coach, tutored two pitchers (All-America pick Tod Lee, Ryan Cummings) who were selected in the MLB Draft... Holds faculty position in GSU’s Center for International Studies... Holds a Ph.D (International Studies) after graduating from GSU (Summa Cum Laude, political science) in 1989... Inducted into the Statesboro High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
