Of the major league baseball's most dominant left-handed pitchers in the 1980's. Recently finished career with 117-72 record and 2.99 earned run average in 10-plus seasons of big league action. Played 15 overall seasons of professional baseball. Born February 2, 1954 in Schenectady, New York. Spent eight years in the Boston Red Sox organization (1976 to 1983), one year in Pittsburgh, five overall seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and one and a half seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pitched in three World Series, twice with the Cardinals and once with the Dodgers. Played at Georgia Southern during the 1975 season after transferring from North Shore Community College in Massachusetts where he earned MVP honors. Was the Eagles' top pitcher with an 1.46 earned run average and a 6-2 record. Pitched in 10 games, starting six and completing five. Threw 55.1 innings and recorded 54 strike-outs. Selected by Boston in the secondary phase of the January 1976 fee agent draft. Has started 263 games during major league career, throwing 16 shutouts and recording 988 strikeouts. Was 12-4 with 2.40 earned run average in 1990 for St. Louis, earning spots on the shutouts and was among league leaders in six pitching categories (wins, percentage, innings, strike-outs, complete games and earned run average). Compiled 2-1 record with 3.00 ERA against Kansas City Royals in the '85 World Series. Named St. Louis' BBWAA chapter's Basketball Man of the Year. Graduated from Georgia Southern with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
