One of the most prolific varsity letter winners in Georgia Southern annals... Played four years of football, four years basketball, and three years of baseball before graduation in 1933... Born July 23, 1910, in Statesboro, he was given a full scholarship to Georgia Normal School in 1928... Transferred to Newberry College in 1930-31 to play baseball, but returned to Georgia Normal School on his original scholarship a year later... Started teaching at Emanuel County Institute in 1934 and coached football, boys and girls basketball, and track without any assistants... His football team won 43 of 51 games including three district championships... His boys basketball teams earned district honors twice and his girls basketball teams won three district titles... His track teams won four district championships and one state championship... He retired from coaching in 1939... In 1984, he was awarded the Georgia Southern Letterman Club Award for outstanding achievement in business... He was inducted into Statesboro High School Hall of Fame in October, 1989.
