Georgia Southern Athletics Hall of Fame
Most celebrated golfer in Georgia Southern history was named Amateur Golfer of the Year in 1981. Among his honors that year were the First Team All-American, Trans America Athletic Conference Golfer of the Year. Walker Cup Player and U.S. Public Links Champion. Was low amateur at the 1982 Masters. Born April 23, 1960, in Louisville, Kentucky, he played at Southern from 1978 to 1982. 1979 NCAA Honorable Mention All-American. 1980 Second Team NCAA All-American. Was the 11th place finisher in the 1980 NCAA Tournament. Was 1980 Publinx Champion and when he repeated in 1981 became the first player in more than 20 years to win back-to-back titles. Was the only American to win all three of his matches on 1981 Walker Cup Team. TAAC All-conference in 1981. In 1979 and 1980 became the first golfer to win both the Kentucky Open and The Kentucky Amateur in successive years. Has several PGA Tour wins to his credit, including 1990 Tournament Players Championship at Jacksonville.
