One of the greatest gymnastic athletes ever at Georgia Southern... Upon arrival in 1962 and served as captain of the Georgia Southern Gymnastics Team 1963 to 1965... Born September 6, 1938 in Jacksonville, Florida... A two-time individual high scorer for the Eagles in 1963 and 1964... Started gymnastic competition at age 24... Graduated from Tennessee Military Institute in 1956, and completed a tour in United States Marine Corps... Along with coach Pat Yeager, responsible for establishment of nationally visible gymnastic program... Led squad to victories over proven programs such as U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Florida... Led Georgia Southern to first Intercollegiate Gymnastics League (SIGL) title in 1963 as the leading scorer... Owned individual championships in the SIGL horizontal bar and long horse vault events... Won two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) individual titles in 1964... Captured national championship in the horizontal bars (80.25) and parallel bars (81.00) and finished second in all-around competition and had a third place standing in the free exercise... Piloted Eagles to runner-up position at the 1964... Served as president of Eta Rho Epilson...
