
Mason's Career Day Highlights Eagles Top-Ten Victory Over Chanticleers, 7-4

Statesboro, Ga. — The Georgia Southern baseball (14-34, 6-18 SBC) took down #9 Coastal Carolina (34-13, 19-5 SBC) by a 7-4 margin in the second half of a Sunday doubleheader (May 3rd).

- After giving up a leadoff single, the Eagles retired the next three Chanticleers in the first.
- Facing one of the best pitchers in the country in Cam Flukey, the Eagles reached aboard in the opening three batters. After he punked Edwards, both James McCoy, Brady Christman and Bryson Trammell picked up singles with the latter two getting RBIs. The following AB saw Sean White drive in Southern's third run of the frame in just the opening inning.
- Pado's solo homer in the second cut the deficit to just two, but the other three Chanticleer batters were retired.
- In the top of the third, a single from Barrango caused chaos when after Alex Mason threw the ball into the dugout to trade baseballs, he was not allowed time by the umpires, resulted in Rodney Hennon to be ejected and allowed Barrango to move all the way to third. The following batter saw a lineout to White at first who threw across the diamond for a double play and got the Eagles out of the frame.
- With one out in the third, the Eagles had six straight batters reach aboard. All of Christman, Jonathan Jaime and Jack Myers had RBI singles en route to Southern pouring on three runs, all of which belonged to Flukey, en route to a 6-1 lead.
- The next six Chanticleers were retired by Mason, including a 1-6-3 out to close the fourth by Grant Jordan that sent the home dugout into a frenzy.
- In the Southern fifth, White stood aboard first after reaching on a fielder's choice.Two batters later, Jack Myers delivered a double to the gap that scored White all the way from first, making it 7-1.
- Mason went all the way into the ninth inning with no trouble, but faced some adversity in the final frame.
- In the bottom of the ninth with one away, Mason walked his first batter all afternoon before plunking the next Chanticleer. The visiting squad had two on before two wild pitches advanced them both two spots, enough to score one.
- Jax Lewis entered the game, and despite a leadoff walk and a two-RBI double to the gap that made it 7-4, Lewis forced a groundout and ended the game with a backwards K to get the Eagles the Sunday win.
NOTES:
- Alex Mason's 8.1 inning afternoon was the longest by an Eagles in two years, as both complete games in 2025 came in seven-inning contests.
- Christman now has the lone longest hit streak with now his 18 straight games with a knock. He could become just the second Eagles in ten years to up it to 20 if he can this week.
- The Eagles put up six earned runs on potential top-12 MLB Draft pick in Cam Fulkey, knocking four hits and earning three free bases off of him on the day.
- The Eagles pick up their first top-ten win since April 9th of 2022 when they took down Texas State.
