Hattiesburg, Miss. — The Georgia Southern baseball team (16-38, 7-21 SBC) fell to the Golden Eagles 14-3 (38-14, 20-8 SBC) in seven innings on Thursday night (May 14th) in Hattiesburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the top of the first, the first batter that Southern had saw the Golden Eagles make a diving stop at second to start the night off strong with a 1-2-3 frame. Southern held USM to no score after Max Prozny made a leaping grab in centerfield with one down to get the Eagles off the field.
In Southern's second Sammy Leis stood aboard second after an errant throw from USM's third baseman. However, two strikeouts in the frame stopped any threat.
In Southern Miss' second, they exploded for ten runs, the most allowed by the Eagles all season. They used eight hits (including two doubles and a homer) to quickly take a double-digit lead after two completed.
The Golden Eagles added via a two-run homer in their fourth, followed by back-to-back solo homers in the fifth extended their advantage to 14.
The Eagles threatened in their sixth when Grant Jordan singled through the right side before an errant fielder's choice throw put two Eagles aboard and eventually into scoring position. Brady Christman drove in one Eagle to avoid the shutout, making it 14-1.
In the seventh, the Eagles clawed back by loading the bags after a Southern Miss error and two hit by pitches before Kaden Thompson and Jordan drove two in in consecutive ABs.

NOTES:

Grant Jordan had all the Eagles three hits of the night, his first three-hit game as an Eagles and second multi-hit game in the past three contests.
Kaden Thompson picked up his first career RBI with his fielder's choice in the seventh inning.
