Hattiesburg, Miss. — The Georgia Southern baseball team (16-39, 7-22 SBC) fell in the penultimate game of the 2026 season to #8 Southern Miss (39-14, 21-8 SBC) by a 10-1 margin on Friday night (May 15th).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Bennett Edwards singled for Southern on the first pitch of the game and added a stolen base to put him in scoring position early. However, Camden Clark struck out the side to give him three early Ks.
In the bottom of the first, Morrison for the Golden Eagles roped an RBI-double to the gap after USM's opening batter walked and stole a bag to make it 1-0. However, two quick groundouts ended the frame early.
Georgia Southern responded right back in to start the second as Sean White blasted a homer off a sign in left field on a 1-2 count to draw the game back even.
USM's second was eventful as they took two walks to open the half-inning to put two on. Following that, an errant throw on a sac-bunt loaded the bags with none away for the Golden Eagles. After a fly to center for the first out, Georgia Southern forced a 6-U-3 double play to strand the bags full and keep things tied.
In the Eagles' third, a hit batter and single through the right side from James McCoy eventually put two runners in scoring position after a wild pitch. Clark delivered in the clutch again on the rubber, striking out the next two he faced looking to send them back to the dugout.
The Golden Eagles added a run in both their third and fourth to make it 3-1 midway home. In the third, USM went for three hits to get their run while a walk, sac-bunt and eventual RBI-double from Urban put up a run in the fourth.
After the Eagles' second straight inning with a leadoff hit, they could not convert after two strikeouts, upping Clark's counter to nine on the night, kept it a two-run game.
Southern Miss opened up the scoring a bit more after the halfway point, as two walks eventually were the ones to score after Barrett's double down the line, followed by a fielder's choice grounder to push it to 5-1.
Fast forwarding to the bottom of the seventh, Georgia Southern held USM to a scoreless frame in the sixth before a double and RBI-single that just tiptoed foul ground in back-to-back ABs from Higdon and Stockman made it 6-1.
In USM's eighth, they had their most successful inning of the evening. After a leadoff homer made it 7-1, they added on a double and three singles to plate three more, making it 10-1.

NOTES:

Tonight was the first contest all season in which James McCoy did not play defensively for the Eagles, as he was the DH for the night.
Holden Wade impressed early out of the bullpen as he retired six straight to start his outing. On the night, he had a season-long appearance of three innings, while also matching his most strikeouts of 2026 with his two in the evening.
Sean White had a monster night in his return to the lineup as he was just a triple away from the cycle with his three-hit night. He missed his second homer of the evening by mere inches and a spectacular play in center by USM stopped White's chance at the cycle in the eighth.
