Hattiesburg, Miss. — The Georgia Southern baseball team (16-40, 7-23 SBC) fell 11-0 in eight innings of their final game of the 2026 season against Southern Miss

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a 1-2-3 Eagles' first, Southern Miss went on a hit parade for five runs in their first chance with the bats. The home squad went for five hits, including two homers and a Russo double.
USM scored a run in in both the second and third innings to extend their lead to 7-0 after an error to start the second helped their case before a Higdon single and stolen base, followed by an RBI-double from Long, plated another in the third frame.
Both squads were held scoreless in the fourth and fifth as Craig Kalkbrenner kept the Golden Eagles off the board in the fourth, while Will Robbins had two strikeouts in the fifth.
In USM's sixth, they plated another on a walk, followed by back-to-back singles from Gillespie and Russo to plate their eighth.
Robbins and the Eagles held on to a threat, as a one-out single and walk put the winning runs on base. However, Robbins forced a three-pitch strikeout and a flyout in the next two he faced to get his Eagles out of the frame.
Southern Miss closed the book in their eighth as a Morrison double and a walk put two runners on before Russo homered to walk it off for the home squad, giving them at least a share of the Sun Belt regular season title.

NOTES:

Both James McCoy and Sean White ended their collegiate careers with base knocks as Brady Christman also ended his stellar freshman campaign on a high note as well.
On the rubber, Will Robbins had a strong start to his final collegiate outing, going three full innings while only giving up a singular run and three strikeouts to close his incredible collegiate career.
