HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the top of the first, the Eagles got two quick outs before the Cougars took over. LaCoste and Plyler had back-to-back singles before Diaz drove them both home with a double down the left-field line to make it 2-0 early.
- The Eagles responded right back in their home first as both Bennett Edwards and James McCoy led off with singles to the right side to put them on before Brady Christman delivered again with a triple to left-center to tie it at 2. The following batter, Bryson Trammell picked up an RBI with a simple groundout to give the Eagles the lead.
- The following half-inning, Carter DeGondea picked himself back up by going 1-2-3 with two strikeouts to send Southern back to the dugout.
- Southern added on two more in the second when leadoff singles from Jack Myers and Kade Kisz put them both in scoring position after a sac-bunt. After a wild pitch plated one, Edwards picked up an RBI with his sac-fly, making it 5-2.
- The Cougars kept the scoring streak going as three singles was enough to score one, but they stranded the corner bags to end their threat.
- An inning later, the Cougars loaded the bags with just one away before the Eagles sent in Brady Pendley in relief. On a 2-2 pitch, he forced a ground ball to third that resulted in a 5-4-3 double play to keep them scoreless in the frame.
- After Lyon's continued dominance in relief work for CofC, their bats used another three-hit inning to bring another home, making it 5-4. However, Pendley picked up a major strikeout with two runners on to end the inning.
- The Eagles extended their lead in the fifth as singles from McCoy and Christman put two on before Bryson Trammell singled and advanced to second on his single to center field whilst scoring them both. The following two batters saw consecutive RBI-doubles from Sean White and Jonathan Jaime to opposite corners to make it a 9-4 lead.
- Pendley continued to dominate in the following two innings, not allowing a run until the eighth, when Holbrook drilled a double to plate one, making it just 9-5.
- The Cougars put two on base in the ninth, but could not muster any runs thanks to a Jax Lewis save, giving the Eagles the victory in the J.I. finale of the 2026 season.
NOTES:
- Christman's triple in the first was his fourth on the season and now ties him for second in the Sun Belt; a three-way tie with Steven Meier of Troy and Michael Young of USA.
- Eight of the Eagles' nine starters recorded a hit on the night, going for eleven total on the evening.
- Lewis' save was his second of the season and first since April 3rd against Texas State. He is just one of just four Eagle pitchers this season with a save under their belt.
