HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Eagles accomplished a rare feat this season and took an early lead in their first. After two walks in two batters, Bryson Trammell drilled a pitch that burned the centerfielder's head, scoring them both. Sean White then laced a shot to left-center to score Trammell, making it 3-0 after just one half inning.
- In the bottom of the first, two Mountaineers got on via the walk before Mummau made it 3-1 with his single. However, a massive Carter DeGondea K ended the inning and stranded two.
- App tied it in their second on one swing, as after a leadoff single, Seward was the one to deliver the long ball.
- After a clean next three half innings, App expanded their lead to 6-3 in the fourth. The Mountaineers used five hits to force a pitching change, but Brady Pendley got the Eagles out the inning in just three pitches.
- With two away in the Eagle fifth, James McCoy found a perfect 2-0 pitch that he rode to left field, just clipping over the fence to make it 6-4.
- The following frame, App poured on four more hits to plate two. However, a groundout with the bags loaded stranded three Mountaineers.
- Fast forwarding to the Eagles' seventh, pinch hitter Jonathan Jaime had a two-out swinging bunt single that he advanced to second on after an error. The following batter, Bennett Edwards brought him home with a rope to the outfield, making it 8-5.
- The Mountaineers made use of some insurance in the eighth, as an RBI-double from DuPont to left field plated one before later on, Smith slashed another to left to make it 11-5.
NOTES:
- Both McCoy and Christman extended their hit streaks on the evening. McCoy now has the longest by an Eagle this season with his 13, while Christman is just behind him at a dozen.
- McCoy's solo homer was his eighth of the season, tying his hit streak rival Christman to now both lead the squad this year.
- Trammell's two-RBI double in the first was his 16th of the year, tying him for third in the Sun Belt and matching McCoy for the most on the team.
UP NEXT:
- The Eagles and Mountaineers conclude their weekend series with the finale set for 1 PM tomorrow (April 26th) at Smith Stadium.
