
Georgia Southern Hits 100, Cruises Past Coastal Georgia Thursday

STATESBORO – Georgia Southern men's basketball (7-5) crossed the 100-point mark for the first time this season, rolling past Coastal Georgia (5-7) 100-58 on Thursday night at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center.
The Eagles used a 49-point first half and a barrage of three-pointers to seize control early, then never looked back, outscoring the Mariners 51-31 after halftime. Georgia Southern knocked down 14 three-pointers and shot 52 percent from the field, while outrebounding Coastal Georgia 46-28.
Tyren Moore and Dwayne Williams Jr. led the Eagles with 21 points apiece. Moore shot 8-of-11 and connected on five three-pointers, while Williams Jr. posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and a game-high seven assists, and Khayri Dunn chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Alden Applewhite scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds, and the Eagles' bench poured in 45 points as 10 different Eagles reached the scoring column.
Georgia Southern broke away midway through the first half, using a 15-2 run to stretch a 22-17 edge into a double-digit lead. The Eagles hit eight threes in the opening period and forced eight turnovers to build a 49-27 halftime advantage.
The lead reached 30 points less than five minutes into the second half, after Moore scored seven quick points, including his fourth and fifth three-pointers of the night. The Eagles' defense continued to overwhelm Coastal Georgia, holding the Mariners to 33 percent shooting in the second half and 35 percent for the game.
Georgia Southern finished with 20 assists on 36 made baskets and scored 38 points in the paint, while converting 20 points off turnovers.

- The 100 points scored against Coastal Georgia marks the 130th time in program history that the Eagles hit that mark and are the most points scored under head coach Charlie Henry, surpassing the 98 scored against Johnson C. Smith.
