Eagles Fall in Doubleheader Against Chanticleers

Conway, S.C. — The Georgia Southern baseball team (10-9, 0-3 SBC) fell to the 24th- ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (15-5, 3-0 SBC) by scores of 7-2 and 11-1 on Saturday's doubleheader.

In game one, Coastal asserted their offense early as back-to-back RBI base knocks would put them up early, 2-0, in the opening frame. The Eagles would get one back though the very next half inning via a Jonathan Jaime home run. In Jaime's first start of 2025, he would send the first pitch of the inning beyond the wall in left-center field.

For the Coastal Carolina bats, they would be held scoreless by starter Jax Lewis, who would go for 4.2 innings on the afternoon. However, seven Coastal hits across two innings would see them plate five more runs, with a Luke Odden sacrifice-fly sandwiched in between.

After Lewis, Brady Pendley would appear in relief for another solid outing. The leader in ERA on the squad would go 3.1 innings, only allowing a singular run and hit to close out the ball game. Jaime would be the Eagles top hitter in game one, adding on another hit in his four at bats.

In game two, the Eagles had a promising first innings in back-to-back singles in Sean Smith and Daniel Haab, but would quickly be shut down. The Chanticleers picked up right where they left off as Dean Mihos would hit a leadoff solo shot to start his offense hot early.

In the Eagles' third, they would nod it back to even as Josh Tate would slam his second homer of the series, taking a pitch deep to left field. However, an eight-run fourth inning for the Chanticleers would eliminate the momentum for Southern.

Another two runs for CCU in the sixth would give them a double-digit advantage

Sean Smith would go back to his former self, going three-for-four in the final game of the series while also keeping his hit streak alive at now 16 games. On the mound, Davis Smith would finish the day for the Eagles, going two innings and only allowing one earned run and a hit, while striking out two.

The Eagles return to Statesboro for a Tuesday midweek clash against Kennesaw State. First pitch on St. Patrick's Night against the Owls is set for 6:05 PM.
