STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 6-4 to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Louisiana (37-15, 20-6) put up four runs combined in the second and third innings to build a 4-0 lead before the Eagles (27-23, 15-11 SBC) responded in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Sean Smith's two-RBI double, scoring
Sam Blancato and
Jarrett Brown, put the Eagles on the board and cut the lead in half at 4-2.
T.J. McKenzie followed with a sac fly to right field to score
Sean White and cut the lead to 4-3 after six frames.
In the next inning, Southern tied the game with a Blancato solo-homer over the Blue Monster. With no score by either side in the eighth inning, the teams carried a 4-4 score into the final frame of regulation.
The Cajuns were able to score two runs in the top of the ninth, the first from an RBI-single and the second from a wild pitch. The Eagles would have a runner on and the tying run at the plate, but the Cajuns were able to hold off the Eagles rally for a 6-4 win.
JT Etheridge was tagged with the win after 1.2 frames of scoreless baseball, while
Mitchell Gross fell to 2-4 on the season.
