STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team dropped a 9-2 decision to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Eagles (27-24, 15-12 SBC) threw the first punch in the bottom of the third inning and led for the first time on the weekend when Sean Smith sent a 384-foot homer off the videoboard in left field, setting Southern up with an early 1-0 lead.
Louisiana (38-15, 21-6 SBC) responded with a home run of its own in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1, then took the lead with an RBI-double in the top of the fifth frame. The Cajuns would add two runs in the top of the sixth, three runs in the top of the seventh, and two runs in the top of the eighth before the Eagles made a dent in the lead on a Cajun error, plating Sean White to cut the lead to 9-2.
Georgia Southern had two on in the bottom of the ninth, but a Louisiana double play sealed the game for the Cajuns at 9-2.
Ga'von Wray fell to 1-1 on the season after giving up the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth, while Carson Fluno improved to 3-0. David Christie took his fourth save of the season.
