Baseball Ties Series With Offensive Explosion

Eagles go for the series win Sunday at 1 p.m.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Georgia Southern baseball team tied the series with the UCF Knights thanks to a 21-hit performance, taking game two 19-7. The Eagles will go for the series win on Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

The Eagles (6-4) wasted no time getting on the board, getting with every single Eagle in the lineup getting back to home at least once in the top of the first inning. All but one Eagle got a hit in the first inning, highlighted by a Zane Faulk two-RBI single in his first plate appearance, Sam Blancato two-RBI double during his second plate appearance, and a Noah Ledford two-RBI single in his second plate appearance. Georgia Southern raced out to an 11-0 lead before the Knights (8-2) had a chance to bat.

UCF was able to get an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Eagles continued to pour on the runs, scoring four more in the top of the third, including back-to-back RBI-doubles by Ledford and Faulk. Jarrett Brown also earned an RBI from a bases loaded hit-by-pitch, scoring JD Kaiser. The top of the fourth inning saw Ledford send a ball to deep left-center, marking his second home run of the season.

The Knights threated with two homers in the bottom of the fourth inning, but a sacrifice fly by Ledford would earn his sixth RBI of the contest and give the Eagles a more cushioned lead, 17-3 after the top of the fifth inning. UCF plated four between the bottom of the fifth and bottom of the sixth innings, , but the Eagles added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning thanks to a Kyler Hutlgren hit-by-pitch, scoring Luke Hatcher, and a Blake Evans sac fly, bringing AJ Wenrich home.

Ben Johnson remained perfect on the season, moving to 3-0 after his performance. Johnson struck out four while allowing five earned runs. Anothony DiMola earned his first save of the season after pitching for 3.2 innings, only giving up a single hit and fanning six Knights.
