MONTGOMERY, Ala. –
Parker Biederer laid down the sacrifice squeeze and beat out the throw to score
Jason Swan from third in the top of the 11
th inning to defeat Louisiana 3-2 and advance to the conference finals.
The Eagles improved to 34-22 on the season, while the Ragin' Cajuns fall to 32-23 on the year.
Jay Thompson picked up his 7
th victory of the season working the final two innings, allowing one hit and walking one.
In the top of the second,
Parker Biederer singled to center field to score
Jason Swan from third. Louisiana would answer in the bottom half with a double steal to tie the ballgame. In the fifth, Biederer played hero again, hitting a solo home run to right field to give the Eagles the lead.
Jordan Jackson and
Nick Jones would combine for 20-straight Cajuns retired, before a two-out single broke that streak in the ninth. Jackson pitched a gem, working seventh inning of two hit baseball and striking out eight batters.
In the ninth, Louisiana would rally to tie the ballgame with a play at the plate on a chopper to third base. In the eleventh, Biderer would lay down a sacrifice squeeze which he would beat out to score Swan and give the Eagles the lead. Thompson would close out the final three outs to lift the Eagles over the Cajuns and send them to the finals.
