No. 22 ECU Downs Eagles to Take Series

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern baseball dropped the series with No. 22 East Carolina on Sunday afternoon, falling 6-0 in the rubber match. GS falls to 2-5 on the season, while ECU improves to 6-1.

ECU opened up the scoring in the first with a solo-shot to center field. ECU would continue to add on runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth. Carson Whisenhunt pitched six and two thirds innings allowing four hits and striking out 11 batters. 

The Eagles were finally able to break the shutout in the ninth, stringing together a few hits and scoring two runs. Sam Blancato doubled to left field to score two runners. Jarrett Brown also jumped in on the action singling to put runners on the corners late. 

Braden Hays was pegged with the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season. Carson Whisenhunt earned his first victory of the season, improving to 1-0 on the season.

Georgia Southern will hit the road for the second time this season, traveling to Jacksonville, Fla. to take on North Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
