Eagle Baseball Slugs Past Charleston Southern, 7-4

Jason Swan's first home run of the season puts the Eagles on top

STATESBORO - Jason Swan's first home run of the season, a three-run bomb to left, handed Georgia Southern Baseball a 7-4 win over Charleston Southern on Tuesday night. The sophomore came off the bench to bash the go-ahead big fly. Georgia Southern travels to Coastal Carolina for a weekend series beginning on Thursday night.

SCORING INNINGS
BOT 1st | CSU 0 - GS 1 | The Eagles converted a leadoff double from Steven Curry for a run with Tyler Martin's RBI single to left.
TOP 4th | CSU 1 - GS 1 | Charleston Southern got its first hit in the fourth inning, with a leadoff single. The Buccaneers moved the runner up and in with a walk, a single and a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.
TOP 5th | CSU 4 - GS 1 | Two hits from the first three batters in the fifth opened the door for the Bucs to take the lead on a three-run home run.
BOT 5th | CSU 4 - GS 3 | After a leadoff single in the fifth, Noah Ledford destroyed his eighth home run of the season to right, cutting the lead to 4-3.
BOT 7th | CSU 4 - GS 7 | Coming out of the stretch, A walk and another double from Curry set the table for Jason Swan. The sophomore clobbered his first home run of the year over the wall in left. The three-run home run staked the Eagles to a 6-4 lead. After the home run, the Eagles loaded the bases for Ledford. The freshman lofted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Martin from third.

NOTES
- Steven Curry recorded a 3-for-5 day against the Bucs, logging a trio of doubles. It was the first time that an Eagle batter hit three doubles in a single game since Kody Adams did the feat on March 14, 2015 at Troy.
- Nick Jones earned his first collegiate win on Tuesday, working three innings and matching a career-high with six strikeouts. He allowed just two hits and walked one to improve to 1-1 on the year.
- Tyler Martin continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
- Hayden Harris delivered a one hit ninth inning, striking out the final batter for his fifth save of the year.

UP NEXT
The Eagles get the weekend started a day early this week, visiting Coastal Carolina for a three game series, beginning on Thursday night. First pitch on Thursday in Conway is set for 6 p.m.
