STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Baseball scored five in the eighth inning to race past Kennesaw State, 7-2 on Wednesday night on Jack Stallings Field at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Noah Searcy hit two home runs, driving in five Eagle runs to propel the Eagles to the win on a 3-for-4 day. The Eagles will welcome Texas State to town this weekend for a three game series, beginning on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
SCORING INNINGS
BOT 6th | KSU 0 - GS 2 | Noah Searcy hit his second home run of the season in the sixth inning, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead with the two-run bomb.
TOP 7th | KSU 2 - GS 2 | Kennesaw State answered quickly in the seventh inning, putting runners aboard with a walk and a single. A wild pitch after a sacrifice bunt brought the first run of the inning in to score, while an infield ground out drove in the second run of the frame and tied the game at 2-2.
BOT 8th | KSU 2 - GS 8 | The Eagles quickly got two runners aboard in the eighth inning, with a single and a walk.
Noah Searcy showed bunt with runners at first and second, but a throwing error by the Owls pitcher moved both runners to scoring position. Searcy rode the 3-2 pitch over the wall in left center to put the Eagles on top of the second time in the game. A sacrifice fly from
JP Tighe, and a squeeze bunt by
Blake Evans plated two more as the Eagles pushed the lead to 7-2.
NOTES
- Sophomore
Rhett Gay, a native of Twin City, Georgia, made his Division I debut on Wednesday night, making the start and working two innings of the controlled outing. He struck out one and allowed a hit, retiring the first three batters on just six pitches in the first inning.
- Searcy's five RBI game was a career-high for the sophomore from Jacksonville. It was his first two home run game as an Eagle. His three-run home run in the eighth inning was the first home run that scored more than two runs this season for any Eagle hitter.

Steven Curry extended his hit streak to 14 games with a 2-for-4 game. He was also hit for the 12th time this season and the 54th time in his career. He is just four HBPs shy of J.R. Revere's school record career haul of 58.

Cole Whitney worked the final two innings of relief, striking out one batter to improve to 3-2 on the year.
