Men's Tennis Battle at ITA Southeast Regional

ATLANTA, Ga.- Georgia Southern men's tennis encountered some strong competition this past weekend at the ITA Southeast Regional, hosted by Georgia Tech. GSU was represented by Marco Osorio, Oliver Webb, Rafael Racy, and Albert Codina Sala.
"We fought hard in our matches, but when you are at this level competing against the best in the country, no one is going to give you anything, you have to earn every point," said Head Coach Nick Zieziula. "We played some very good tennis at times, but it wasn't consistent enough to earn the games we needed at the end of sets. Two years ago, we had maybe the worst record in in all of college tennis at 3-20, but we responded from that adversity by working harder and smarter and creating one of the biggest turn-arounds in the country, notching 11 wins last year. We need to remember that mentality and turn this fall seasons' adversity into improvements by using our losses to fuel our practice and conditioning sessions. We only have a few weeks of our fall season left and one tournament to go."
The Eagles brought home a few wins, including a big one from Marco Osorio, who beat Georgia State's Thomas Cook (5-7, 6-2, 6-2) in the Singles Consolation Draw. Cook has been the top player in Georgia State's lineup this fall, and played almost every match at #2 for them last year. Osorio moved on but lost to University of Florida's Gordon Watson in the next round (6-1, 6-1).
The Eagles close out their fall season October 25-27th at the Elon Invitational.
