Eagles advance to the semis for a third consecutive season; finish year 11-9
ROME, Ga. - Georgia Southern men's tennis saw its season come to a close on Saturday in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals as the No. 3-seeded Eagles fell to No. 2-seeded Troy, 4-0, at the Rome Tennis Center.
Troy (24-4) advances to face top-seeded Old Dominion in the championship match on Sunday. Georgia Southern sees its season come to a close with an 11-9 record and a squad that featured five freshman, one sophomore and one senior. The trip to the Sun Belt semifinals was a third straight for the Eagles.
The Trojans earned the doubles point in the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The Eagles' duo of Matthew Mitchell and Willy Mirarchi were able to pick up a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Troy took a 2-0 lead with a straight-set win at No. 3 singles, then earned a three-set win at No. 1 singles and a straight-set win at No. 5 singles to clinch the victory.
