HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite surrendering three walks, the Ospreys used a double play to help get them out of the opening frame with none allowed.
- A fantastic basket catch from Jack Myers in foul territory and a gunned down runner from Bennett Edwards a pitch later also kept the scoreboard clean for the Eagles in the first.
- After Robbins tossed four strikeouts through three innings, Southern finally took the lead of an Edwards' double with a runner on, who rounded third after an Osprey error in the outfield.
- After Robbins exited, three walks surrendered loaded the bases for the Ospreys for Craig Kalkbrenner to enter with one away. Despite one of them being a sac-fly, Kalkbrenner forced two flyouts to limit the damage and strand two Ospreys, tying the game 1-1.
- After back-to-back singles in the sixth for UNF and advancing on stolen bases, Kalkbrenner continued to step up in big situations. He would strike out the next two Ospreys and force a flyout to keep the game even at one all.
- In the Southern seventh, a leadoff walk and Edwards single put two on, but two quick outs threatened the inning. However, Jonathan Jaime would deliver in the clutch again, turning on a pitch that dropped in right field to score one and give the Eagles back the lead.
- A leadoff single from UNF in their eighth put a runner on third after two groundouts. However, a double from Hosey to deep right field evened up the contest back at two.
- In the top of the ninth, a hit by pitch and walk put two on for Edwards to play hero again. He delivered in an unorthodox way, slapping a liner out to right field that an Osprey couldn't make a play on, scoring Trammell from second to make it 3-2.
- After not adding on any more insurance runs, the Eagles sent in Jayden White to try and close the night out.
- He came through in the clutch, punching out two Ospreys en route to a save and the Eagles tenth win of the season.
NOTES:
- With his fourth inning double, Edwards ups his hit streak to now ten, the longest currently on the squad.
- Will Robbins made his first start in 1,093 days (4/4/2023 vs Georgia Tech), making a career-long outing of four full innings. He kept UNF off the board, only allowing one hit and striking out a career-high five batters.
- Edwards had another multi-hit night with his single and double, making it his tenth of the season.
- With only four hits on the evening, it was the least amount of hits in a Southern win since February 17th, 2023 with their four hits in a 4-3 win over West Virginia.
UP NEXT:
- The Eagles depart for their longest road trip of the season for a three-game stretch at Texas State. First pitch on Thursday night is set for 6 PM in San Marcos.
