Todd Greene Named to Georgia Sports Hall of Fame

MACON, Ga. – The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame has selected former Georgia Southern baseball standout Todd Greene for induction, recognizing his lasting impact on Georgia's rich sports history.
"I know how much work and effort Todd has put into his craft, so for him to receive this recognition from the state of Georgia is really special," Georgia Southern Athletics Director Chris Davis said. "We're incredibly proud of Todd and look forward to being there with him that evening and celebrating this tremendous accomplishment. We truly appreciate the way Todd represents Georgia Southern University, Georgia Southern Athletics and Georgia Southern Baseball."
One of the greatest players in Georgia Southern and NCAA baseball history, Greene established himself as one of the most dominant hitters ever to wear the Eagle uniform. A four-time consensus First Team All-American, Greene earned First Team All-America honors from Baseball America, the American Baseball Coaches Association and Collegiate Baseball in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993.
Greene played a pivotal role in leading Georgia Southern to its historic 1990 College World Series appearance as a freshman and earned All-America recognition during each of his four seasons in Statesboro. Over 240 career games, he hit .344 with 88 home runs, 257 RBI and 640 total bases.
His 88 career home runs remain the Georgia Southern record and rank third all-time in NCAA Division I history, while his 640 career total bases rank sixth in NCAA history. Greene also holds the Georgia Southern single-season record with 203 total bases, set during the Eagles' memorable 1990 campaign.
In recognition of his extraordinary collegiate career, Greene became just the second baseball player in Georgia Southern history to have his jersey retired when No. 20 was honored on Nov. 8, 2003.

"From Evans High School to Georgia Southern and a successful career in the big leagues, Todd has always represented himself, his family and Georgia Southern with tremendous pride. Following his collegiate career, Greene was selected by the California Angels in the 1993 MLB Draft and quickly advanced through the minor leagues before making his Major League debut in 1996. During an 11-year Major League career, he played for the California Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants.
Greene is also remembered for one of baseball's most iconic moments, serving as the catcher for President George W. Bush's ceremonial first pitch before Game 3 of the 2001 World Series at Yankee Stadium. The moment became a powerful symbol of unity just weeks after the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Greene's selection to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame adds another prestigious honor to a career defined by historic accomplishments at both the collegiate and professional levels. His legacy remains firmly entrenched in Georgia Southern baseball history, where his power, production and impact helped establish the Eagles as a national force.
