
Eagles Fall to the Mountaineers on Wednesday

STATESBORO – Appalachian State (18-9, 10-4 SBC) led wire-to-wire on Wednesday evening, defeating Georgia Southern (14-12, 6-7 SBC) at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center.
The Mountaineers built an early lead and never looked back, outscoring the Eagles in both halves. Appalachian State was led by Kasen Jennings, who scored 31 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-8 from three-point range, and added six rebounds. Michael Marcus Jr. contributed 20 points and 10 boards, while Alonzo Dodd added 18 points for Appalachian State.
Georgia Southern was paced by Tyren Moore's 17 points and Spudd Webb's 12. Nakavieon White chipped in nine points in the loss. The Mountaineers shot 48.2 percent from the field and made 20-of-28 free throws, while Georgia Southern finished at 38.1 percent and was just 11-of-31 from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides traded baskets to open the ballgame, as Appalachian State drained two three-pointers to open a lead, 8-5.
- Appalachian State maintained a seven-point lead heading to the under-eight-minute media timeout, holding the Eagles scoreless for over two minutes of game action, 20-13.
- Georgia Southern closed the half on a run, closing the gap to four points after Spudd Webb knocked down a three-pointer, 31-27.
- Appalachian State pushed their lead to 10 points out of the break, before a Class-A Technical foul on the Mountaineers, sparked a 7-0 run for the Eagles to cut the lead to six, 45-39.
NOTES
- Three Eagles scored in double figures on Wednesday, as Tyren Moore led the charge with 17 points. Spudd Webb added 12 points and Khayri Dunn chipped in 10.
- The Eagles shot 35.5 percent from the three-point line against the Mountaineers, while added a 66.7 percent tally from the free throw line.
- With his two blocks against the Mountaineers, Shainen Carter moved into a tie for ninth all-time for blocks in a single season, drawing level with Jeff Sanders (1988-89).
