STATESBORO, Ga. — Jason Beverlin, a long-time college coach who has head coaching experience and ties to Georgia Southern, has been named the new pitching coach of the Eagle baseball program, as announced Monday by head baseball coach
Rodney Hennon.
Previously, Beverlin coached in the same role at Sun Belt rival Coastal Carolina from 2022 to 2024. In his first season with the Chanticleers, his staff led the Sun Belt in both strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.54) and fewest walks allowed per nine innings (3.58) and ranked fourth in the conference in both WHIP (1.40) and strikeouts per nine innings (9.1) on the season.
"I couldn't be more excited to return to Georgia Southern as the pitching coach," Beverlin said. "Statesboro holds a special place in my heart, and my wife and I are thrilled to be back in a community we love. Having coached here before, I know firsthand how passionate the fanbase is and how strong the tradition of Georgia Southern Baseball is. Working alongside Coach Hennon—a former teammate, exceptional coach, and someone I deeply respect—is an incredible opportunity. I'm excited to help this program return to the high standards of excellence set by previous teams and push it to even greater heights. I can't wait to get started. Go Eagles!"
Before his stint in Conway, Beverlin served as a recruiting coordinator for the Toronto Blue Jays from 2017-2020. He also served as the head coach for Bethune-Cookman from 2011 to 2017, where he won 179 games, four MEAC Tournament titles, and is the only coach in program history to compete for an NCAA Regional title in his final season with the program.
Beverlin is no stranger to Statesboro, however, as before serving as the pitching coach for Tennessee from 2010-2011, he served in the same role under Hennon in 2008 and 2009. The improvements to the pitching staff were reflected on the field, as the Eagles would win the Southern Conference title in 2009.
Collegiately, Beverlin was a teammate of Hennon at Western Carolina, where he won Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year in 1994, and even garnered second-team All-American honors. For this, he was inducted into the Western Carolina Hall of Fame.
Beverlin would go on to play professionally for five different organizations across eight seasons in the minor leagues before being called up in 2002, where he made appearances for both the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. Following his career in the MLB, Beverlin would go on to play for three years in Japan, where he was selected as an All-Star in 2004.
He and his wife, Heather, are the parents of two sons, Cole and Lucas. Cole was a pitcher at Western Carolina who was selected in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays (39th round, 1,166th overall pick) out of high school. Lucas recently completed his collegiate career as a pitcher at USC Sumter.
"I am excited to have Jason Beverlin back in Statesboro to lead our pitching staff," Hennon said. "Jason brings a wealth of baseball experience in a variety of roles at both the college and professional levels. He understands what it takes to be successful at Georgia Southern and in the Sun Belt Conference. He has a proven track record of evaluating, recruiting, and developing pitchers. Jason and his family will be an asset to both our program and the Statesboro community."
