STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team (13-7) spilt a pair of games taking game one against Buffalo, 2-0, before falling to Winthrop 2-0 on Friday at Beautiful Eagle Field.
Georgia Southern is scheduled for two games tomorrow against Buffalo and Winthrop at Beautiful Eagle Field weather permitting. First pitch against Buffalo is set for 1:30 p.m. with the second game following.
Game One: Georgia Southern 2, Buffalo 0
Anslie Pettit (5-4) spun her sixth complete game of the season tossing 7.0 innings scattering three hits and fanning one. The Eagles defense held the Bulls to three singles as the Bulls never reached second base.
The Eagles struck in the bottom of the first posting the only runs of the game for a final score of 2-0.
Gracie Bellard drew a six-pitch walk before advancing to second on a Bull error to put runners on first and second. Two batter later,
Faith Barth knocked in two runs on an RBI-double.
GS posted three hits in the contest as Barth, Bellard, and
Delanie Thames recorded the hits for the Eagles.
Game Two: Georgia Southern 0, Winthrop 2
After five scoreless innings, Winthrop broke the score in sixth after Lilly Stump drew a leadoff single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, KaDedra Temple drove her in on RBI-double. Winthrop would go on to score another run in the seventh to extend its lead scoring on a fielding error.
Alana Barnard (2-1) was tagged with her first loss of the season tossing five innings allowing just one run on two hits with five strikeouts.
Janai Conklin led the Eagle offense going 2-for-3 and
Emma Davis went 1-for-2 for the three total hits in the contest.
