STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team is set to welcome the Kennesaw State Owls for a midweek contest on Tuesday, March 12, at J.I. Clements Stadium. This game marks the final non-conference game before Sun Belt Conference play starts for the Eagles this weekend. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m.
Georgia Southern carries a 7-8 record into the game after collecting its first sweep of the season over Radford last weekend. In that series, Georgia Southern bat .280 as a team, with several notable moments happening on the field, such as
T.J. McKenzie's first home run for the Blue and White on Saturday night, as well as
Jarrett Jenkins' first career home run on Sunday afternoon. On the pitching side, the Eagles had a team ERA of 2.33 after only giving up seven earned runs all weekend while striking out 27.
Mitchell Gross had a quality start in game two with six innings of work and only one hit with zero runs and six strikeouts, setting the Eagles up for a series victory in that game. The Owls come into the game with a 9-7 record after winning its second series last weekend on the road at Kentucky. The weekend prior, the Owls took down Longwood, but has series losses to UAB and Clemson.
Georgia Southern holds a 18-15Â all-time record against Kennesaw State. The two began playing each other starting in 2007. The Eagles are 8-8 all-time against Kennesaw State in Statesboro, but are 10-6 against the Owls in Kennesaw.
Last season, the Owls took both games from Georgia Southern, first with a close 4-3 affair in Statesboro before taking a 13-9 contest in Kennesaw. It was the first season GS had not beaten KSU since 2014.
