Late Seminole Rally Sinks No. 25 Eagles in Extra Innings

Ledford hits two homers in 6-5 loss

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 25th-ranked Georgia Southern baseball team fell to Florida State 6-5 in 11 innings at Dick Howser Stadium on Wednesday night. The Seminoles scored four runs in the final two innings to give the fans free baseball and then won it in the 11th inning.

Neither team scored until the third inning when the Eagles (24-12) were able to plate three runs. Christian Avant hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Kyler Hultgren, and then Noah Ledford knocked a two-run home run to right field to drive in Jesse Sherrill and make it 3-0. The Eagles would add one more in the top of the fourth inning when a Sherrill RBI-single drove in Austin Thompson.

The Seminoles (23-13) would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with a double to left center, but GS would respond in the top of the seventh inning with a second Ledford home run to right field, extending the lead to 5-1. The Seminoles would plate two runs in the eighth inning on a pair of ground outs. The Noles would put the tying run on, but Ben Johnson got a big strikeout to end the threat. The Seminoles would rally to plate a pair of runs off Johnson in the ninth inning to tie it up before the Eagle reliever got the final two outs with the winning run just 90 feet away.

After the Eagles loaded the bases in the 11th inning but failed to score, FSU did the same in the bottom of the frame, but plated the winning run on a walk-off walk.
