Radford Evens the Series Defeating GS on Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga. - Ryan Sande pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, as the Radford Highlanders defeated the Eagles 4-2 in Statesboro, Ga. to even the series on Saturday. The Eagles fall to 4-5 on the season, while Radford improves to 4-6.

The Highlanders jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first, collecting six hits in the frame. Braden Hays settled down after the first inning allowing just two hits and striking out six to keep the Highlanders at bay. 

GS broke through in the fifth inning, after being no-hit through four innings. The Eagles strung together three hits to score two runs and cut into the Radford deficit. Jacob Parker came on in relief for the Eagles in the seventh, walking two batters, before being replaced by Jay Thompson.

The Eagles pitching staff allowed no hits throughout the final three frames, but the bats could not come alive late. The rubber match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday, March 1st.

  • Ryan Sande improved to 1-1 on the year for the Highlanders
  • Bruce Hudson picked up his third save of the season
  • Mitchell Golden broke up the no-hitter in the fifth with a single to left and later came around to score the first run for the Eagles.
  • Parker Biederer doubled to the gap in right center to score Golden, scoring later in the inning on a wild pitch.
