STORYLINES
- Georgia Southern welcomes UNC Asheville to town for the first time in a weekend series. The series is the final non-conference set of the 2019 season. The Eagles open league play next weekend at UT Arlington.
- Georgia Southern took the Mercer Bears out for a walk on Wednesday evening, 13-3. The Eagles tallied 13 strikeouts and 15 hits in the game. Mercer capitulated following a seven run Eagle sixth inning.
- The Eagles dropped the only previous meeting between the Eagles and Bulldogs back in 2006. Georgia Southern was out-hit 18-11 and outscored 10-3 in Game Six of the Georgia Southern Invitational. UNCA retired the Eagles in the eighth inning of the game with a L6-3 triple play.
- The sixth inning has been a boon for the Eagles over the last two games. Georgia Southern has hung a seven-spot in the sixth inning of each of the last two games. Overall this season, the Eagles have outscored their opponents 21-0 in the sixth frame.
- The 10-7 win over the ninth ranked Bulldogs is notable for more than just the Eagles giving it to the state's flagship institution. The Top-10 win is the first since May 30, 2014 when the Eagles downed No. 4 Florida State in the opening game of the Tallahassee Regional, 7-0.
- In the series finale Georgia Southern flew past the No. 9 Bulldogs behind a seven run sixth inning. The Eagles managed the crooked number with four walks and three hit batters as well as a three base fielding error. Did we forget to mention any hits? Nope, the Eagles scored seven runs in an inning without a base hit.
- With wins in the series finales against West Virginia and Georgia, the Eagles have kept alive their good mark at home in non-conference play. Over the last 20 years under Coach Hennon, the Eagles have not been swept in a three game series at J.I. Clements Stadium. The last time the Eagles were swept in a three-game series at home was in May 1982 when Florida State took three games over the Eagles.
- Six has been the magic number over the last six years for Georgia Southern Baseball with a 122-16 record when scoring six or more runs. The Eagles were 18-3 last year with six or more.
UP NEXT
The Eagles strike out on the road for the next six games starting with a midweek trip to Georgia Tech on Tuesday before traveling to UT Arlington for a three-game weekend series and the opening of league play next weekend.
