HATTIESBURG, MISS. – Georgia Southern Baseball came out on the short end of a 4-3 result on Friday night against No. 15 Southern Miss. The Eagles got an outstanding performance from
Brian Eichhorn who tossed six innings of three hit ball. Two-hit days from
Chandler Corley and
Mason McWhorter buoyed the visitors who fall to 7-7 on the year. Game two of the series is set for Saturday at Noon (CT) / 1 p.m. (ET).
SCORING PLAYS
Top 4th -
Mitchell Golden got the Eagles going in the fourth inning with the game's first hit. After a walk to
Mason McWhorter, Golden scored on
Noah Searcy's single to right. An error on the play allowed to move up to second and third with one out. A second error in the inning allowed the Eagles plate another run and push the lead to 2-0.
Bottom 6th - A hit and four walks with one out in the sixth plated a run with two more scoring off a single to left later in the frame, giving the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead.
Top 8th - A leadoff single by
Chandler Corley ended the day for the Southern Miss starting pitcher, and
Mason McWhorter punished the reliever with a double down the first base line, plating Corley from first and tying the game at 3-3.
Bottom 10th - A leadoff walk in the 10th came around to score as Southern Miss took the 4-3 win. A bases loaded single to left did the damage as the Golden Eagles took game one.

Brian Eichhorn struck out five batters and walked three in his six innings of work. The junior twirler held the No. 15 ranked team to three hits and three runs to tally his third quality start in four starts. He did not factor in to the decision.
- The Eagles stranded 10 runners on base, their highest total in the last six games.

Chase Cohen struck out four in two-plus innings of relief work. The junior threw 59 pitches, but allowed the run in the 10th inning and walked four.
