STATESBORO – Georgia Southern secured a 2–0 victory over UNC Greensboro on Sunday afternoon following a tightly contested defensive battle at Eagle Field. With the win, the Eagles improved to 3–2 on the season to open the 2026 campaign.
After five scoreless innings, Georgia Southern broke through in the sixth when the offense pushed across two runs to take control of the game. The Eagles added two insurance runs in the seventh, preserving the shutout through the final out.
At the plate, Georgia Southern relied on timely contact and situational hitting.
Kayla Christensen delivered a key base hit to ignite the scoring, while Delanie Thames provided a spark with a multi-hit performance that included a double. Brooke Kell came around to score on a passed ball, and Emma Davis drove in Christensen with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead.
The Eagles finished the game with two runs on four hits and drew one walk, capitalizing on limited scoring opportunities in a pitching-dominated contest.
In the circle, Bailey Holland delivered a dominant performance, tossing a complete-game shutout for Georgia Southern. Holland scattered three hits across seven innings, struck out three batters, and issued just one walk, keeping UNC Greensboro's offense off balance throughout the afternoon.
The Spartans were limited to three hits and were unable to generate sustained offensive momentum against Holland's efficient outing. UNC Greensboro's pitching staff kept the game close, but Georgia Southern's late-inning execution proved to be the difference.
With the victory, the Eagles maintained momentum in tournament play, showcasing strong pitching and disciplined offense. Georgia Southern will continue its season next weekend, traveling to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to face host Alabama, Purdue, and Liberty from February 13–15.
