
Eagles Prevail for Ninth Straight Victory at Old Dominion Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. – Georgia Southern (12-5, 4-0 SBC) used a balanced scoring attack and clutch play down the stretch to defeat Old Dominion (4-12, 1-3 SBC), 93-86, Saturday afternoon at Chartway Arena, extending the Eagles' winning streak to nine games.
Alden Applewhite led Georgia Southern with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Spudd Webb and Tyren Moore each scored 16 points to pace a deep Eagles roster. Shainen Carter added 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, joining Webb as the two Eagles' accomplishing that feat. Khayri Dunn contributed nine points off the bench in a strong overall team effort.
The Eagles shot 47 percent from the field, connected on seven three-pointers and made 24-of-30 free throws in the win. Georgia Southern jumped out to a 47-30 first-half lead and never relinquished control despite a furious Monarchs rally in the second half.
ODU was led by Ketron Shaw's 23 points and Robert Davis Jr.'s 15, with Drew McKenna adding 14 points. The Monarchs attempted to climb back behind a strong second-half performance, but couldn't overcome the Eagles' early advantage.
With the win, Georgia Southern stayed perfect in Sun Belt play and improved to 4-0 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Eagles will head into the final contest of the three-game road stretch at South Alabama with the lead in the Sun Belt Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgia Southern opened the contest on a 20-2 run, before the Monarchs ended the run with a layup under the hoop, 20-4.
- Old Dominion used a 12-2 run to trim the Eagles lead in half, holding the Eagles without a field goal for over three minutes, 27-19.
- The Eagles entered the break with a 17-point advantage, shooting 45% from the field and knocking down 11-of-14 free throw attempts in the first half, 47-30.
- Out of the break, Georgia Southern surged in the first five and a half minutes, scoring 11 points including Spudd Webb muscling his way to the basket multiple times, 58-39.
- Just as they did in the first half, the Monarchs used a 10-0 run over two minutes to cut the Eagles lead to 13 points, 62-49.
- ODU cut the Eagles' lead to seven points with under six minutes to play, making 6 of their last 8 shots, 73-66.
- Shainen Carter put the Eagles up 11 points with under three minutes to play, as they broke the press and slammed home a dunk on the other end, 81-70.

- Spudd Webb tallied his first double-double of the season on Saturday scoring 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Webb also added 6-of-8 free throws and grabbed a season high 10 rebounds.
- Shainen Carter was the second Eagles' player with a double-double on Saturday, scoring 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting and knocking down four free throws, grabbing 10 rebounds for a new season high.
- Georgia Southern extended its winning streak to nine games, improving to 4-0 in Sun Belt play for the first time since 2017. The nine-game winning streak is also the longest streak since the 2004 season, where the Eagles won 13 straight.
- Four Eagles scored in double figures as Alden Applewhite led the way with 17 points. Tyren Moore and Spudd Webb scored 16 a piece, while Shainen Carter added 12 points himself.
- Carter tied a season high with five blocks against ODU, including a game sealing block in the final minutes to help the Eagles remain unbeaten.
- Georgia Southern improved to 8-0 this season when scoring 90-plus points in a contest and 43-3 since joining the league in 2014-15.
