Eagles appear in the poll this week after knocking off previously-unbeaten Wofford on Saturday
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis has earned a program-best ITA Division I national team ranking, appearing at No. 65 in this week's poll released by the organization today.
The Eagles earn a team national ranking from the ITA for a third straight year and the No. 65 ranking eclipses the previous best national ranking of No. 67, achieved last season.
Georgia Southern is 7-2 this season, with its only two losses coming to SEC foe Florida and No. 44 UCF. The Eagles have a win over FGCU this season, who appear at No. 63 in the rankings, and two future opponents also appear in the poll - No. 35 Old Dominion and No. 43 Marshall.
"Our goal from the outset this year has been to focus on our day-to-day progress and to not be concerned with match results," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "I think that this focus has been great for such a young team. They can see their gains and developments, and there is no doubt that they recognize their hard work is paying off. A national ranking is further proof that they are doing a great job of keeping their main thing, the main thing. Finding a way to improve 1% each day and focusing on their process is the goal and by doing that, the results will follow."
The Eagles are in the midst of a seven-game homestand at Wallis and will be next in action tomorrow, hosting in-state rival Mercer for a 2 p.m. contest.
