Georgia Southern takes the Bobcats to the brink in the SBC Tournament Second Round
ROME, Ga. - No. 12-seeded Georgia Southern women's tennis saw its season come to a close on Thursday as No. 5-seeded Texas State claimed a hard-fought 4-1 victory over the Eagles in the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Championships second round in Rome, Ga.
The Eagles finish the season with a 9-13 mark, while Texas State improves to 14-7 and will advance to face No. 4 seeded Arkansas State on Friday at the Rome Tennis Center.
The Bobcats claimed the doubles point from the Eagles with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Georgia Southern started off singles play strongly, capturing four of six first sets. Only one match would finish in straight sets as Texas State extended its lead to 2-0 with a win at No. 3 singles, with all of the other five singles matches going to a third set. Evelyn Warkentin would get the Eagles on the board with a 7-6 (8), 0-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, but Texas State would then close out the match with three-set wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
The Eagles return six players for 2026-27, losing just one senior from the squad this season - Nanaka Kijima.
