Sophomore earns first team accolades for leading the Eagles this Spring with 15 wins
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis sophomore Evelyn Warkentin has earned All-Sun Belt Conference first team singles honors, announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon.
Warkentin went 16-5 this Spring in singles action for the Eagles, all at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. She went 5-2 against Sun Belt opponents and 12 of her 16 singles wins came in straight sets. This is the first All-Conference honor for the Aschendorf, Germany, native in her career, and she is the fifth Eagle to earn first team All-Conference singles honors in the last six seasons, joining Ninon Martinache (2024), Silvia Martinez (2022 & 2023) and Nadja Meier (2021).
"I'm so incredibly proud of what Evy accomplished this season," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "Her approach to how she prepares for matches begins at practice. We, as a coaching staff, are so incredibly impressed with her work ethic and how she is often the first person on the courts prior to practice and to matches. She truly takes a professional approach to everything she does. Her growth from a year ago has been phenomenal. Her team pushes her to be better; we as coaches push her to be better, but what makes Evy the player she is, is herself. Her development this last year is nothing short of incredible. The team having a growth and developmental mindset allowed her to become one of the dominant players in the conference, and soon, in the nation. The sky is the limit for her!"
