Georgia Southern Blanks Jacksonville State, 4-0, On Friday

Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season with win over the Gamecocks

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis delivered a 4-0 win over Jacksonville State on Valentine's Day at the Wallis Tennis Center.

The Eagles improved to 6-2 on the season with the win, while Jacksonville State fell to 3-2. Georgia Southern returns to action on Thursday, February 20, hosting South Carolina State in a 1 p.m. contest at Wallis.

Georgia Southern earned the doubles point with a 6-3 win by Mackenzie Leopold and Lisen Rinman at No. 1 doubles and a 6-4 win by Hannah Eifert and Franzi Heinemann at No. 2 doubles.

The Eagles then clinched the victory with three straight-set singles wins. Rinman earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lea Erenda at No. 1 singles, while Juliette Nask notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Polina Ramenskaja at No. 2 singles. Amelie Rosadoro then finished off the victory with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Zuzana Pavlekova at No. 5 singles.

"I feel like the team had a really good showing today," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "The team was tasked with stepping up without one of our normal starters and the ladies rose to the challenge. Lisen and Mac were really good in doubles, Hannah and Franzi came up clutch when it really mattered in doubles as well.

"I think everyone looked good in singles overall," McCaffrey said. "Lisen showed why she is one of the strongest young freshman this year as she had little trouble in her match. Juliette played a very aggressive and intelligent game in order to take her match in straight sets. Amelie recognized she needed to close out the match in straight sets when she noticed her teammates were going into their third sets and she did a fantastic job and stepping up with great bravery in late key points. Now we will recover for a couple of days and get ready for our final non-conference matches over the next couple of weeks as we look forward to building momentum towards the Sun Belt conference season."
