STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's basketball (1-1) erased a seven-point halftime deficit on Saturday afternoon at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center to edge UNC Asheville (0-2), 93-90.
Graduate guard Spudd Webb led the Eagles with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while Nakavieon White added 16 points, and Tyren Moore and Alden Applewhite each chipped in 11 and 10, respectively. Georgia Southern trailed 39-32 at the break before outscoring the Bulldogs 61-51 in the second half.
The Eagles shot 45 percent from the field (29-for-65) and went 28-for-39 from the foul line, while forcing 18 turnovers that led to 24 points. Georgia Southern's bench contributed 23 points, led by strong minutes from Dwayne Williams Jr. and Shainen Carter.
White hit a go-ahead three-pointer with under two minutes remaining in the game, and Webb sealed the win at the line as the Eagles held off a late push from the Bulldogs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNC Asheville opened the game with a 9-0 run, before Andres Burney scored the first points for the Eagles in their home opener.
- At the under 12-minute media timeout, Georgia Southern used a 7-2 run highlighted by a Khayri Dunn and-one opportunity to cut the Bulldogs lead to two heading to the break, 18-16.
- Georgia Southern went on a 2:28 scoring drought, after the under four minute media timeout, before Alden Applewhite drove to the hoop and got to the charity stripe.
- At the break the Eagles trailed by seven, converting 12-of-19 free throws and forcing six Bulldog turnovers. Georgia Southern held UNC Asheville to 1-for-7 from beyond the arc.
- Out of the break, the Eagles used an 8-0 run to gain their first lead of the contest, 47-46, thanks to Spudd Webb pouring in six points.
- At the first stoppage of the second half, Webb took over, shooting 4-for-7 from the field, including knocking down a three-pointer to give Georgia Southern a 58-55 advantage.
- With less than two minutes in the game, Jefferson Koulibaly drew an offensive foul, which led to a Nakavieon White three-pointer to put the Eagles up five with a minute to play.

- Graduate Spudd Webb poured in 25 points in the Eagles' victory Saturday, shooting 9-for-15 and 2-for-5 from three-point range. He added a perfect 5-for-5 afternoon from the stripe, collecting two rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
- With the win on Saturday, the Eagles improved to 9-3 at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center.
- Georgia Southern shot 71.8 percent (28-39) from the stripe on Saturday, highlighted by Alden Applewhite knocking down 10-for-14 from the line.
- Four Eagles scored in double figures on Saturday as Webb (25), Nakavieon White (16), Tyren Moore (11), and Alden Applewhite (10) all contributed down the stretch.
- The Eagles' defense forced the Bulldogs into 18 turnovers and collected 10 steals on the afternoon.
- Georgia Southern's bench outscored the Bulldogs 23-7, while also outscoring UNC Asheville 24-9 off the turnover.
