STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's basketball hits the road for the second time in three contests, traveling to Fort Myers, Florida, for a midweek matchup against Florida Gulf Coast. Tip-off from the Alico Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
THE OPENING TIP
- Graduate guard Spudd Webb started for the second consecutive game this season and the first in Statesboro. Webb finished Saturday's contest with 25 points, leading all scorers, and helped lift the Eagles to a 93-90 victory over UNC Asheville. The Hartwell, Georgia, native poured in 18 second-half points on 7-of-10 shooting. With 41 points on the season, Webb is now second in the Sun Belt Conference in scoring with 20.5 points per game behind Southern Miss' Isaac Taveras (22.0).
- Trailing by seven at the break, Georgia Southern used a 61-point second half to secure their first victory of the new year and push the overall record at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center to 9-3 all-time. The 61-point second-half outbreak was the most points scored by an Eagle team under head coach Charlie Henry. It surpassed the Eagles' 55-point effort last season against ULM.
- Graduate guard Tyren Moore has produced 1,129 career points in his four seasons in Division I. Entering Tuesday's game at Florida Gulf Coast, Moore sits with 891 points in a Georgia Southern uniform, nine away from hitting 900 career points in Statesboro. As the season progresses, Moore looks to become the 47th Eagle all-time to collect 1,000 points with Georgia Southern.
- After shooting just 60 percent from the free-throw line in the Eagles' season opener against East Carolina, Georgia Southern made it a point of emphasis during the week to focus on converting at the charity stripe. In Saturday's victory over UNC Asheville, Georgia Southern converted on 71.8 percent of their attempts (28-39). The 28 free throws made were the most in a game under head coach Charlie Henry, surpassing the 24 made at the line at Old Dominion in 2024. On the flip side, the Eagles' 39 attempts are the most under coach Henry since shooting 33 against Coastal Carolina in 2024. The two tallies are the most for the Eagles in a game since 2020 as well. The Eagles are now second in the Sun Belt in made free throws, sitting with 46 behind Arkansas State, which has converted 51 from the stripe.
- Trailing by seven points heading to the break, Georgia Southern needed a spark to avoid falling to 0-2 on the season. Graduate guard Spudd Webb helped fuel a 61-point second half for the Eagles, which featured a 16-for-20 tally at the charity stripe and a 5-for-9 line from beyond the arc. In the second half, Webb shot 70 percent from the field and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the line. He tallied 18 second-half points, one of three Eagles in double-figures in the second half, to lift Georgia Southern to a 93-90 victory. The 61 points in the second half were the most in the Charlie Henry era, surpassing last season's 55-point second half against ULM.
