Kendall Wilson, Meredith Pugh tally scores as Eagles earn a point from the Warhawks
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's soccer celebrated Senior Night on Friday evening, earning a 2-2 draw with visiting ULM at Bo Pitts Field.
The Eagles (2-9-6, 0-4-5 SBC) earned a point from the Warhawks (10-2-4, 5-0-4 SBC), who remained unbeaten in Sun Belt Conference play. Georgia Southern will now wrap up its 2025 season on Wednesday, traveling to Boone, N.C., to take on App State at 6 p.m.
Prior to the match, the Eagles honored five players for Senior Night - goalkeeper Katie Oakley, midfielder Kendall Wilson, forward Bri Conley, defender Erin Wilkins and midfielder Carley Borgelt.
The match was scoreless at halftime, thanks in large part to Georgia Southern goalkeeper Quinn Wilson. A video review in the 15th minute awarded ULM a penalty kick, but Wilson dove to her left and saved the try by Giulia Franco to keep ULM off the board. ULM held a 10-8 edge in shots at the break.
In the second half, the Eagles struck first in the 51st minute. A ball into the box was headed out by a ULM defender, but it came right to the foot of Wilson, who fired a shot from just outside of the box inside the left post for her second goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles would then add a second goal in the 64th minute. Wilkins' service into the box found the foot of Meredith Pugh, and Pugh's turnaround shot found the left post and caromed in for her second goal in as many games.
ULM answered with two goals in a five-minute stretch, getting one from Ines De Lope Casanova in the 74th minute and one from Jaden Masters in the 78th minute.
"You're looking at a 10-2-3 team that's undefeated in the league," Georgia Southern head women's soccer coach Chris Adams said about the draw. "To get our nose out in front was great. If, at the start of the day, you had told me we would draw 2-2, I probably would have taken it. Just with the type of season they're having. We don't like how it happened, being up 2-0, and then coming back, but I think there was a lot learned. You've got them playing for first place in the West division and us playing for pride. What you saw tonight was a lot of pride in the team wearing the Georgia Southern uniform."
The Warhawks finished the match with a 23-18 edge in shots. Wilson finished with six saves in net for the Eagles, while ULM goalkeeper Jen Handy had five for the Warhawks. ULM had a 9-4 edge in corner kicks and the Warhawks were whistled for three fouls, while Georgia Southern was whistled for nine fouls and one offsides.
