Old Dominion scores twice in the match's final 14 minutes; Eagles host Troy on Thursday for Senior Day

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion scored twice in the match's final 14 minutes to take a 2-1 Sun Belt women's soccer victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon in Norfolk.

The Monarchs improve to 6-6-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the Sun Belt after winning their fifth straight in the series over the Eagles, who fell to 7-4-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the league with the loss. Georgia Southern returns to action on Thursday, October 22nd, hosting Troy in a 5 p.m. Senior Day match at Bo Pitts Field.

On a breezy day at the ODU Soccer Stadium with winds hovering around 20 mph, the Eagles were able to take the lead late in the first half against the Monarchs. A Monarch clearance was played back towards the top of the box by the Eagles, and a deflection by an ODU defender was tracked down by Addison Comer. Comer fired a shot from outside the box that beat Monarch goalkeeper Ellie Goodrich left in the 44th minute to give Georgia Southern the 1-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Eagles maintained their lead until the 77th minute when an ODU player was contacted in the box. After a video review, the penalty kick was awarded and Hannah Morgan converted the penalty kick to even the score.

A free kick in the 88th minute led to the match winner for the Monarchs as Madison Telmer volleyed in a ball that had bounded around the top of the box following the service.

ODU finished the match with an 11-6 edge in shots. Quinn Wilson made a pair of saves in net for the Eagles, while Goodrich made one save for the Monarchs. Georgia Southern was whistled for 17 fouls on the day, compared to 10 for the Monarchs, and the Eagles held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
