Eagles Deliver 5-2 Win Over FGCU On Saturday

Georgia Southern notches win in 2025 Spring home opener

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis opened up its 2025 Spring slate successfully by picking up a 5-2 win over visiting FGCU on Saturday afternoon at the Wallis Tennis Center.

The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the young season with the victory, while FGCU falls to 2-2. Georgia Southern returns to action on Friday, January 31, hosting No. 8 (NAIA) SCAD-Savannah for an 11 a.m. match at Wallis.

Georgia Southern notched wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to collect the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead. The homestanding Eagles were then able to take a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of straight-set wins at the bottom of the singles lineup. Nanaka Kijima claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win over Paloma Goldsmith at No. 6 singles, then Amelie Rosadoro notched a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nora Svensson at No. 5 singles.

All four remaining singles matches went to three sets. Lisen Rinman notched the clinching point with her 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Anjali Kotecha at No. 3 singles. Franzi Heinemann was also able to notch a three-set singles win of her own, winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (0) at No. 2 singles over Isabella Colmenares.

Florida Guif Coast has always been a very strong program," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "We needed to play well today to come away with the win. I feel like the team is gaining so much in confidence. And when we have such a young team it's great seeing the team adopt the Georgia Southern Eagle 'relentless attitude' mantra, so this is becoming second nature to how they do things. Evy and Juliette looked like a top ten doubles team. Hannah and Franzi went down 3-1 and stormed back to take the set 6-3 and earn the team the doubled point. Nana and Amelie did a huge amount of work taking their matches in very efficient fashion.  And both Lisen and Franzi needed three tough sets to secure their singles. Both Lisen and Franzi looked even more comfortable in the later part of the match then they did earlier. A testament to how tough the ladies are. We will now get ready for a couple of matches next week. GATA!!"
