MIDWEEK PREVIEW: Eagles and Cougars Set for Wednesday Night Rematch
5/9/2023 3:30:00 PM | Baseball
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team will continue its seven-game road trip with a midweek matchup with the College of Charleston Cougars on Wednesday night at The Ballpark at Patriot's Point in Charleston, S.C. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
The Eagles and the Cougars met earlier this season in Statesboro, with College of Charleston taking a 8-5 victory over the Eagles. In that game, Georgia Southern surrendered seven runs in the first two innings, which proved to be enough for the Cougars to take a win over GS.
Georgia Southern comes into the game with a 24-23 record after dropping the first two games of a Sun Belt Conference series at Troy, taking the last game in dramatic fashion, 9-7, off of a bottom of the ninth inning game-clinching double play. The Cougars come into the matchup with a 29-17 overall record after taking a CAA series over North Carolina A&T, taking the first two games while falling in the final game of the series on the road. CofC was originally supposed to face Charleston Southern on Tuesday night, but the game was canceled.
RHP Cameron Oliu (0-0, 0.82 ERA) will get his first Division I start against the Cougars on Wednesday night, while the Cougars will send RHP Cole Mathis (4-1, 3.53 ERA) to the mound to face the Eagles.
