Baseball Drops Series Opener at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 6-4 to the UCF Knights in game one of a three-game tilt on Friday night at John Euliano Park. The two squads will reconvene for game two on Saturday, March 4, at 4 p.m.
Georgia Southern (5-4) came out of the game hot, scoring in the top of the first inning from a Noah Ledford groundout, scoring Jarrett Brown. In the top of the third inning, the Eagles would triple its lead thanks to a Sam Blancato RBI-single that plated Jesse Sherrill and another Ledford groundout, scoring Brown again. pulling ahead by as much as 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning, when Sherrill's sacrifice bunt scored Blake Evans to take the 4-0 lead. Three of the Eagles' four runs were scored on sacrifice plays.
The Knights (8-1) would begin to chip away at the Eagles lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo homer to left field. In the bottom of the sixth inning, a. two-run homer would narrow the gap to a 4-3 Eagles lead. In the bottom of the ninth inning, a UCF RBI-single down the left field line would tie the game, and a two-run homer to right field would end the night with a 6-4 UCF win.
