Eagles Win Big Twice On First Day Of Bash In The Boro

Georgia Southern defeats LIU, 10-6, and Bryant, 14-2, on Friday

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern softball notched a pair of wins on the first day of the 2023 Bash in the Boro tournament, Friday at Eagle Field. The Eagles defeated LIU, 10-6, and Bryant, 14-2, in five innings.

In the other action in the Bash in the Boro, Bryant defeated Radford, 4-3, in five innings and Radford blanked LIU, 3-0.

Day two of the Bash begins on Saturday with LIU and Bryant playing at 10 a.m. The Eagles then face Bryant at 12:30 p.m. and Radford at 3 p.m. LIU and Radford finishes the day with a 5:30 p.m. contest.

GAME ONE: Georgia Southern 10, LIU 6

Emily Greek launched a three-run home run and also had a two-run single as the Eagles notched their first win of the 2023 campaign.

Greek's two-run single capped a five-run third inning as the Eagles took a 5-1 lead on the Sharks. LIU scored twice on an error in the top of the fourth, then in the bottom half, Janai Conklin had an RBI double and Greek launched her three-run blast for the 9-3 advantage.

LIU scored three times in the top of the sixth on a two-run double by Mari Narvaiz and an RBI triple by Camryn Lyman. The Eagles capped the scoring in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Dejah Mills.

Bailey Holland (1-2) picked up her first collegiate victory in the circle, giving up six hits and six runs - four earned - in 5 2/3 innings of work, walking two and striking out four. Kastin Belogorska earned the save with 1 1/3 innings of hitless ball. Alyssa O'Donnell (0-3) took the loss for the Sharks, giving up one hit and four runs in 2 1/3 innings of work, walking four.

GAME TWO: Georgia Southern 14, Bryant 2 (5 inn.)

The Eagles took advantage of 10 walks by Bryant pitchers and put the game away with a nine-run frame in the fourth for the win.

Georgia Southern built a 5-1 lead after three innings as Sam Vinson had an RBI single, Faith Barth a sacrifice fly and Janai Conklin had an RBI groundout. A dropped infield fly in the third led to two more runs by the Eagles.

The Eagles then put the game away in the fourth by sending 12 batters to the plate in the nine-run fourth inning, keyed by back-to-back RBI doubles by Vinson and Conklin.

Graceanne Spears (1-2) notched her first win as an Eagle in the circle, giving up six hits and two runs in five innings of work, striking out four. Brooke Tracy (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs, giving up three runs - one earned - in 1 2/3 innings of work, walking five.

Barth scored three runs and drove in three to lead the Eagles offensively, while Vinson had two hits and two RBI.
